Part 2
When a person visits a home with a pool for the first time, they are at the greatest risk for injury new or in the pool.
First-time visitors should be made aware of all safety rules before being allowed to enter the pool. Never allow anyone to swim alone. Children should be supervised at all times. Children should never be left in the care of an individual (such as an older sibling) unless the caretaker is a capable and responsible person as it relates to the pool/spa environment.
All rules must be enforced. Local regulations often dictate specific minimum rules that must be posted. Remember, “Your Pool, Your Rule.” Rules can cover a wide range of concerns, such as:
- Consumption of food, drugs, and alcoholic beverages is not allowed.
- Glass containers are not allowed in the pool
- Diving or jumping from the deck into the diving board pool area is not allowed.
- Diving is allowed only in designated areas.
- Throwing objects such as balls or other personal items is not allowed.
- Horseplay (running, shoving, dunking) is not allowed.
- Improper behavior, intoxication, and profanity are not allowed.
- Use of electrical appliances such as radios or hair dryers is prohibited.
- Don’t swim if you have/had diarrhoea within the last two weeks.
