Editor - After reading both Honourable Douglas Mwo-nzora's installment on the constitution drafting exercise and the response by Goodwills Masimirembwa and Jacob Mudenda in last week's Financial Gazette it becomes obvious that the constitution-making exercise, never genuinely called for in the first place by the masses, is a huge cynical if not fraudulent political exercise.
A mockery was made of the badly planned outreach exercise, whose results COPAC co-chairperson, Mwonzora, now admits are largely a dog's breakfast, being self-contradictory at times.
His insistence on capturing minority opinion may not be shared by the majority.
The exercise has turned out to be a futile one and a waste of funds. Its use for politicking purposes is, to say the least, disgusting!
It has failed and talk of a referendum is just seeking to abuse donor funds further.
At the very best, soon after the draft is completed, it should be taken to both Houses of Parliament. If after considerable debate it fails to win the votes of 67 percent of the legislature, the referendum, even if it was deemed necessary before, must be abandoned.
As far as I am concerned, the whole thing is elitist and has been done badly. It should be terminated now and the elections, based on the old Constitution, should be allowed to take place when they become due.
The people are tired of the cheap politicking that demeans the so called august House.
Disgusted
