The old adage that he who pays the piper, calls the tune is being proved true by the drafts coming out.
The war veterans are absolutely right to be disturbed.
The revolution has long since been hijacked by pseudo-intellectuals with a propensity for singing for their supper at the expense of integrity.
Besides, not a single soul I know who earn below US$100 per month, and that is more than 90 percent of the Zimbabwean population, ever complained about the current Constitution as the root of our problems.
I am willing to bet my last dollar that close to 100 percent of Zimbabweans have never read the document. I would be surprised, if after a survey, you find that at least half the legislature has done so! All this talk about a people-driven constitution is cheap lies.
Strangely, the fourth Estate, instead of castigating the lies, seems to be supporting the circus!
Is this a case of embedded journalism? What the people want is economic growth, functioning services, corrupt-free bureaucracy, freedom from fear and jobs for their children. They would not care a hoot if a one-man Executive and a two men legislature were able to do the job.
Parliament should, thus, have been seized with the question of economic growth, and address those aspects of the Constitution that are hindering economic growth. As Ambassador Charles Ray has said before, "A constitution is but a piece of paper, it is the people who uphold it that matter".
We are ignoring the constitutional duty to call by-elections on time at the moment, with not a word of concern from any of the political parties in Parliament.
Why should this lot be trusted in obeying or upholding any new constitution?
