RUSSIAN-LINKED coal mine Liberation Mining (Liberation) has reportedly halted operations at its Gwayi concession in Lupane District, Matabeleland North Province, following a fall-out with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), The Financial Gazette has learnt. Sources said the mining company — which received its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certificate earlier this year — had stopped operations with EMA pointing out that the firm was insisting on conducting activities in the highest flood level of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam, a situation that could potentially result in pollution of the water source.
