ZIMBABWE is mulling a further reduction in data and telecommunication tariffs through infrastructure sharing models. Last month, mobile network operators slashed data tariffs from 12,5 cents to five cents per megabyte in compliance with a government directive. Gift Machengete, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) director- general, says networks must charge affordable tariffs for everyone to access their services. “Connectivity without affordability is futile and meaningless. As a sector, we have demonstrated what we believe is a strong will to have everyone connected. Let us all pay special attention to the bottom of the pyramid as we have a relook at our economic fundamentals,” he said.
